So, I think that a nonprofit can hire just like, really, any business.
How you go out and recruit people and make decisions about people--
I don't think that's different from the nonprofit space to the profit space.
Where you really need to pay attention, though, if you're a nonprofit,
starts from the fundamental principle that nonprofits cannot operate for anyone's private benefit.
It's for the public benefit, not for private benefit.
And where that comes into hiring is really what you're going to offer someone as their pay.
It is critical that nonprofits pay their people reasonable compensation.
And when I say "reasonable compensation," I don't mean just what the people think, "Well, that sounds right."
It really has to be reasonable based upon data.
If you're a small nonprofit, you can get a compensation report that comes out every year from an industry group
to see what is reasonable compensation for the different positions in your organization.
If you're a bigger organization, well, then you may need to bring on a compensation consultant
that will help you decide what's reasonable for the different positions in the organization.
