When folks are thinking about starting a nonprofit, it is often because
they have a dream about something that they want to achieve.
They're feeling very excited about this, their enthusiasm is almost boundless,
until they start to understand all of the stuff, if you will, that is involved in getting it off the ground.
So the recommendations that I would give to people who are thinking this way,
is number one, stop and consider whether an alternative makes sense.
Does fiscal sponsorship allow you to get the traction that you need, and maybe bring in some funds.
Consider that. That's one element of it.
The other element is, do be patient with the parts of the process that involve the state, that involve the IRS.
All of that stuff that may seem like a distraction from your mission
is actually what's going to allow you to achieve your mission.
Because, the regulators aren't the only ones who want to be sure that you operate smoothly.
Your potential donating public wants to know that too.
So, be patient with the stuff that's at the beginning,
and in the operating and you will have a successful nonprofit.
